NDF observed Universal Children Day
ONE DAY SEMINAR HELD TO MARK UNIVERSAL CHILDREN DAY

Nawabshah Disability Forum organized one day seminar to celebrate Universal Children day here on Saturday. The theme of the day was “promoting International togetherness and awareness among children, especially children with disabilities”. Speaking on the occasion Chief Guest Executive District Officer Finance and Planning Mr. Farooque Ahmed Mahesar said that this day is an occasion celebrated to promoting the welfare of children and an making an understanding between children’s all over the world. He stressed need to understand the rights of children especially children with disabilities. He said children are equal without discrimination disability, they mostly deprived of basic right of education. Government has taken initiatives to promote education even in far flung areas, but due to poor awareness among the parents, they do not take interest in education of their children. He lauded services of NDF in promotion of child rights especially children with disabilities. He urged upon child rights NGOs like NDF should take steps to raise awareness in this regard, to play their vital role to protect children rights as per UN Convention CRC (Convention of the Rights of the child).
Abid Khan Lashari President NDF Pakistan termed children as big assets of the Nation. He pointed out the history of Universal Children day that it was established in year 1954 by adoption of resolution of DRC (Declaration of Rights of Children) in 1959. UN convention CRC was adopted in 1989, this convention is said to be an important tool for promoting the rights of children all over the world. This day is not only special for children, but also special for parents as every parent try to spend most of the time on this day with his children either on home or any trips like Zoo or Museum. He said child labour is big issue in Pakistan that thousands of children were deprived of basic right of education as well enjoyment and entertainment of their childhood life. He urged need to take stern action against child labour from the community. He said disabled children can also compete with non-disabled children if they were offered conducive atmosphere with equal opportunities. He said disabled children are mostly kept in the institutions like Special Education, which are golden cages for children with disabilities. The children with disabilities should be offered opportunity to get education from mainstream school at his/her locality.
DO Social Welfare Mr. Murad Jamali said that corporal punishment to the students should be stopped in the schools. Children should be equally treated without any discrimination of boys or girls and disability.
Ms. Anna Iqbal Bhatti General Secretary NDF said that children are backbone of our nation; if they were neglected today they may prove harmful for our society in future. She urged need proper care, basic education, due health care, safe nutrition and drinking water. Parents should pay due attention at their children with responsibility of their future.
Mr. Akhtiar Tunio steps should be taken to address the children specific needs and the rules of law to protect them. He further said that more than 300 million students attend their school without safe drinking water and access to a clean toilet in the world. This affects the student heath and causes diseases among them.
Ms. Asma Munir Arain said in her speech that the parents mostly hide disabled children and feel shame over the births and happenings. She said God chose some of challenged people for noble cause, so disabled children are also creature of some Creator. They must not be hatred but encouraged in all spheres of life. Zahid Lashari, Akram Jatt, Mir Maqbool Bhatti and others were also present in the seminar.
