Mohtarma Faryal Talpur inaugurats NDF Rehab Center, Nawabshah



NAWABSHAH: (21-01-2018) NDF Pakistan established NDF CDP Rehab Center was launched formerly through inauguration by MNA Mohtarma Faryal Talpur in Nawabshah. MNA Mohtarma Faryal Talpur said that NDF is providing basic rehabilitation to the intellectual with disabilities, which is very difficult task but NDF commitments are very high to tackle. She said it is dire need to tackle mental health issues over all Sindh especially in Nawabshah. She termed NDF efforts encourage able to tackle disabilities issues in Sindh. Pakistan Peoples Party always supported disability cause, Sindh Government is providing jobs against disabled quota. MNA Faryal Talpur ensured for providing plot & building for the center in Nawabshah & recommended NDF plea for annual grant to Chief Minister Sindh. Earlier Mr. Abid Lashari briefed about Rehab Center establishment, said that the center was established through grant of Community Development Programme (CDP), UCBPRP, Planning & Development Department Government of Sindh under allocated budget PKR-24 Million. The facility will cater needs Life Therapies such as Physiotherapy, Psycho-Therapy, Occupational Therapy, & Speech Therapy, the center will provide boarding facility to 50 children with disabilities & Day-care Facilities to 50 children with disabilities. The 100 beneficiaries belongs to different districts of Sindh. He said that the main objective of center was To enable children with disabilities to live their life with dignity and confidence as equal citizens of Pakistan, to alleviate poverty in Sindh by reducing economic-burden on families/communities living with disabled children, to develop a ‘Center of Excellence’ to produce in future cadre of qualified professionals, generate new knowledge and needs-based responses about child disability challenges in the area, develop good practices of rehabilitation services to replicate the approach in other parts of Sindh. He further told by sharing achievements that synergies developed with CDP & NDF to establish a unique PPP (Private Public Partnership), new knowledge generated about situation of intellectual disability in target areas via baseline research, holistic mapping of target beneficiaries (120 children), community mobilization & engagement activities initiated, awareness enhancement & training activities started, identification & hiring of qualified staff completed, installation of state of the art machines for disability treatment, linkages established with research, health, academic & disability-rights organizations across Pakistan, shaheed Benazir Abad/Nawabshah soon to become a hub for child disability-related rehabilitation activity in Sindh and Pakistan. Mr. Lashari also shared challenges for children with Intellectual in Target Areas, that lack of quality care facilities for children with intellectual disabilities in Shaheed Benazirabad/Nawabshah & Sindh, knowledge & awareness about disability not available in target communities/parents, difficult coping strategies. Some people sent to institutions/mental hospitals for life, children with intellectual (mental) disabilities are not understood at early stage , hence they become victims of their own family. Some treated also as possessed, teachers unaware/unskilled to cater special learning needs, institutions in rural Sindh need more equipment for these type of centers. He requested help in sustainability initiatives through linking ups with INGOs, NGOs, local Philanthropy, Foreign Embassies & Consulates & Sindh Government to allocate annual grant to sustain the services of the programme.
