No discrimination with disabled People: Abid Lashari

Nawabshah Disability Forum (NDF) organized one day seminar to mark Human Rights Day in Nawabshah here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion Abid Lashari President NDF said that the theme of the day was human rights defenders who act to end discrimination. He said disabled people are facing discrimination at all spheres of life in the Society. He demanded to stop discrimination with disabled people. He further said that disabled people are not patients to be cured; they are not children to be cared into homes and not gods to be worshiped. But they are human being; they have same rights like others. Persons with disabilities should be offered equal opportunities to enjoy their rights. He said there is no difference between disability rights and human rights.

Mr. Lashari emphasized the importance of day that human rights day will highlight and promote the achievements of human rights defenders and it will again emphasize the primary responsibility Governments have to enable and protect their role. The Day is also intended to inspire a new generation of defenders to speak up and take action to end discrimination in all of its forms whenever and wherever it is manifested.

SDPD President Mr. Akhtiar Tunio said that SDPD will hold peace Assemblies in the Schools and Colleges to create awareness about peace throughout year 2011. Mr. Tunio further said that human rights defenders speak out against abuse and violations including discrimination, exclusion, oppression and violence. They advocate justice and seek to protect the victims of human rights violations. They demand accountability for perpetrators and transparency in government action.  In so doing, they are often putting at risk their own safety, and that of their families.

He emphasized that attitude of society must be positive towards disabled people. Disability is not curse but blessing in disguise. Disabled people must be encouraged at all walks of life Mr. Tunio added.. Ms. Anna Iqbal Bhatti, Asma Munir Arain, Dilmurad Mari, Azhar Dahri, Ameer Lashari, Zahid Lashari and others also spoke on the occasion. The copies of UN Human rights charter were distributed among the participants.
